“Canyon (for New York City)” is a poem out of Ryan Buynak‘s upcoming book, The Ghost of the Wooden Squid: Random Acts of Poetry by Ryan Buynak, published by indie publishing company Paradisiac Publishing. The book will be published April 1st and will be available in Barnes & Noble and on Amazon. Based on this beautiful excerpt, I’d say it’s worth getting…
Canyon (for New York City)
Winner. Wants/Needs. Full. Unintelligent.
I am a coffee.
and a ska band.
and Harlem.
Settling into myselves.
I take everything because I am in love. with a town known to the sun as doom.
If I destroy myself
somewhere else,
please God,
bring my inundated corpse back here.
Whispering:
The beginning of time. Maybe these are mountains I see towering over me.
I am a womb.
and a son.
And a wolf.
Of the center.
Of the universe.
I know what to call this town:
Bishopric. Avarice.
A canyon. Tipsy. Me.
the angles
in this godforsaken place make it great.
it is a desert but it is not
the same colors as a desert.
it is three thousand
five hundred and two miles from lies and weekends, Manhattan, goddamn it.
Poems are too goddamn heavy to carry around this canyon!
